WILMINGTON – A man is presumed drowned after currents pulled him under the Kankakee River Friday night.

Deputy Fire Chief Todd Friddle said the 33-year-old man was fishing with three other people at 11:15 p.m. in the water off South Island Park.

"They were wading in the water when the back current of the dam pulled him under. The other three were able to get out, but he has not been found," Friddle said Saturday afternoon.

Dive teams were called to the scene and a search of the river was conducted Saturday from the dam to the Des Plaines Conservation Area. The search was suspended Saturday evening and is expected to resume during daylight hours Sunday and, if necessary, Monday, according to Friddle.

Dean Fredericks, 20, of Morris, drowned June 3 in the Kankakee River, when his canoe overturned near the Des Plaines Conservation Area.
