Coal City sophomore pitcher Brad Littleton throws against LaSalle-Peru in May 29's Class 3A Morris Regional semifinal in Morris.

It was apparent this spring that Coal City baseball player Brad Littleton has a bright future, especially when he earned first-team All-Area honors as a sophomore.

The rest of the state has taken note of Littleton’s abilities as well, as he was recently named to the Team Illinois roster for the Prep Baseball Report Futures Games, a showcase for select 2016 prospects. The games, sponsored by Under Armour, will take place from July 31 to August 2 at Grand Park Complex in Westfield, Indiana.

In its fourth year, the Futures Games feature the top uncommitted rising juniors in the Prep Baseball Report coverage states. This year’s games will have teams from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Kansas and an at-large team that is comprosed of players from several other states. The event has evolved into one of the summer’s most heavily-scouted events.

Littleton was 7-3 with a 3.03 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 60 innings for the Coalers this past spring, and will be part of the eight-man Illinois pitching staff, that also includes Garrett Acton of Class 3A state champion Lemont.
