MORRIS – A young girl kayaking Wednesday on the Mazon River near Stratton Park was taken to Morris Hospital after a large tree branch feel on her, striking her in the head.
“It was actually a very large branch that somebody had set up to for a rope swing,” Captain David Wiechen with the Morris Fire Protection & Ambulance District said while on the scene Wednesday.
Wiechen said nobody was swinging on the branch when it fell.
Morris emergency crews responded to the scene at 11:37 a.m. and worked for less than one hour to remove the branch from the kayak, free the girl and move her to safety.
Morris Fire Chief Tracey Steffes said the young woman was in stable condition when she was transported.
