Church sponsors mobile food pantry

Approximately 170 area families took part in the mobile food pantry sponsored by First Christian Church that took place Aug. 13 in the church parking lot.

With a total of 9,007 pounds of food delivered, each household received about 60 pounds of food, including 15 pounds of frozen meat and a variety of other items, including fresh potatoes, carrots, sweet corn, lunch meat, cheese, cakes, coffee cake and bread.

The next mobile food pantry is sponsored by Mazon State Bank, ITW Filtration and Seco Systems and scheduled for Sept. 10 at the Mazon City Park, at the intersection of Seneca & Hill St. in Mazon. Registration will begin at approximately 3:45 p.m. with distribution starting at 5 p.m.

Any Grundy County family in need of assistance with food is welcome to come to the mobile food pantry. Attendees are asked to provide proof of their residency either with a valid drivers’ license, state I.D. or utility bill with their current Grundy County address. Those interested in attending are encouraged to bring a container to carry the items they will receive.

We Care is a local nonprofit agency that provides emergency assistance to Grundy County residents in the form of food, rent, utility and prescription assistance.
