Forest Preserve District of Will County prepares for Kayak the Canal

CHANNAHON – The registration deadline for Kayak the Canal is Sept. 1.

The kayaking program will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 13, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, 25055 W. Walnut Lane, Channahon.

U.S. Canoe Association certified instructors will lead an invigorating day trip from Four Rivers down the Des Plaines River into McKinley Woods Forest Preserve. The program includes a short interpretive hike and a kayak tour of the historic I&M Canal. Lunch and all kayaking equipment (including life jackets) will be provided. Wear shoes that can get wet and muddy and are comfortable for hiking.

Boats will be portaged over short distances. Previous kayaking experience is required. The program is for ages 18 and older. Cost is $40 a person. Registration is required by Sept. 1; call 708-534-8499. For information, visit ReconnectWithNature.org.
