State Rep. Kate Cloonen, D-Kankakee, is encouraging area nonprofit organizations to apply for the Reduce Your Use For Good Grant Program.

Direct Energy, a major electricity, natural gas and home service provider in North America, has established the program to award grants that will help organizations reduce their energy usage to lower their energy bills.

501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organizations may apply for the program. If chosen, the organization will receive a $5,000 grant to improve energy efficiency.

Nonprofits can apply by visiting www.reduceyouruseforgood.com. The application process is relatively short and requires details about whom the organization serves and how the grant would be used, according to the news release.

All applications must be received by Aug. 31 and applicants will be notified of their application status via email by Sept. 30.
