MORRIS – On Aug. 22, Morris Hospital donated $750 to help We Care obtain 6,617 lbs. of food from Northern Illinois Food Bank and provided volunteers to unload the truck and stock the shelves.

“We Care of Grundy County does a great job taking care of the needs of our community,” Mark Steadham, president & CEO of Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, said in a news release. “We are happy to partner with them on a number of initiatives including Fill the Pantry. It’s all part of our commitment to improving the health of area residents and giving back to our community, not only through the services we provide through Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, but by supporting the initiatives of other community organizations whose missions are closely aligned with ours.”

During the month since the last Fill the Pantry, We Care has helped 275 families from its food pantry. We Care receives a monthly delivery of food for its pantry from the Northern Illinois Food Bank, which provides food, cleaning and personal hygiene products to food pantries at prices that are unattainable in grocery stores.

In addition to the food that We Care purchases with the donations, the food pantry also receives food that is provided for free as part of the Emergency Food Program, which provided canned salmon, applesauce, cranberry sauce, cranberry juice, raisins, dried cranberries, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, grapefruit juice, orange juice, whole grain spaghetti, blueberries and whole chickens.

Upcoming Fill the Pantry sponsors include Talty Chevrolet, LyondellBasell and New Community Christian Church.

We Care is a nonprofit agency that provides emergency assistance to Grundy County residents in the form of food, rent, utility and prescription assistance. We Care, a United Way partner agency, is at 520 W. Illinois Ave., Morris. For information, visit
