CHANNAHON – The Channahon Village Board Tuesday approved a letter of intent with the Illinois Department of Transportation for roadwork at the Route 6/Interstate 55 interchange.
Also Tuesday, trustees appointed two new members of the Fire and Police Commission, and set future dates for board meeting and staff holidays.
The letter of intent concerning the interchange project establishes that Channahon agrees with the costs of the project, which will begin at the interchange next year.
The village’s costs will be about $500,000 to rehabilitate the overpass and reconstruct the southwest, southeast and northeast I-55 ramps; widen Route 6 with a barrier median; place emergency vehicle preemption devices on new traffic signals; construct bicycle paths and put up lighting.
Public Works Director Ed Dolezal told trustees the first of three contracts with IDOT may be ready for consideration at the next board meeting.
Although the state will pay for most of the $22 million project, Channahon will pay $20,700 for the emergency vehicle preemption devices at three of the intersections; $19,376 for sidewalk; $14,667 for shared-use paths; and $445,050 for roadway lighting.
Village Administrator Thomas Durkin also asked trustees to consider whether they wanted to add some “enhancements” to the interchange during construction, such as landscaping, facade work and extra street lighting.
Commission appointments, holidays set
Appointed to the Channahon Fire and Police Commission on Tuesday were Tina Lentz and Larry Duffy. Lentz replaces her husband Paul – a nine-year commission member who passed away in August.
Channahon resident Lizabeth Costa was hired as police records clerk.
Village staff holidays were also approved Tuesday. They will be New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 3 for Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Meeting dates and times also were approved for 2015. Village board meetings will still take place the first and third Mondays of each month, with the exception of the first meeting in September, which will be on a Tuesday. Committee meetings are at 6 p.m., and board meetings are at 6:30 p.m., or immediately following committee meetings.
Planning and Zoning Commission meetings are at 6 p.m. the second Monday of each month.
