Plainfield woman in Gardner accident dies

GARDNER – A Plainfield woman died following a rollover accident on Gorman Road early Tuesday morning.

The Gardner Fire Protection District responded to the scene of Tuesday’s accident.

“We were dispatched to an apparent rollover at 5:07 a.m.,” Gardner Fire Chief Terry Jensen said. “There was one victim inside and law enforcement were attempting to rescue.”

Diane J. Platt, 48, of Plainfield was taken by Gardner EMS to Morris Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Jensen said the car had rolled over into a ditch, where it was half submerged in standing water.

The Grundy County Coroner’s Office said in a news release that as of Tuesday afternoon it was unclear why Platt was in the Gardner area and an examination was scheduled for Wednesday to determine cause of death.

Grundy County Sheriff Kevin Callahan said staff from his office was on the scene Tuesday morning and are investigating the accident’s cause.
