MAZON — The Illinois Tool Works filtration products facility in Mazon along Route 47 will close sometime in the near future.

A statement from ITW director of communications Alison Donnelly confirmed speculation locally that it was going to close.

“After evaluating business needs, the ITW Filtration Products facility in Mazon will cease operations,” the statement read. “The Mazon operations will be consolidated into already existing ITW facilities to better leverage capacity and serve the needs of our customers.”

ITW designs and manufactures fasteners and components, equipment and consumable systems along with a variety of specialty products and equipment for customers around the world. The company consists of 84 divisions in 57 countries.

Donnelly said the exact timing of the closure is undetermined at this time and where the operations will be transferred to is also undecided. She said it will be somewhere in North America.

The original statement continued to say, “the difficult decision in no way reflects the skill level or dedication of the ITW Filtration Products workforce, and we are committed to offering opportunities at other ITW locations. The facility employs approximately 60 people, and all employees will be offered separation benefits and outplacement services to assist them during the transition process.”

A call to the Mazon location seeking comment was directed to ITW’s corporate headquarters in Glenview. The company began making filtration products in the early 1970s and today the business unit serves the automotive, industrial and medical markets.
