Morris Community High School holds 142nd commencement ceremony

MORRIS — Despite threatening skies, Morris Community High School went on with its outdoor graduation ceremony Friday night.

The 202-member Class of 2016 marked the 142nd commencement for MCHS, and class valedictorian Jessica Jurak spoke about the class motto, "Take pride in how far you've come, and have faith in how far you'll go."

After honoring retiring teachers Cindy Shannon, Chris Hankins and Barb Rath and athletic director George Dergo, MCHS assistant principal Jeff Johnson read the names of all the graduates and they walked across the podium to receive their diplomas. Class of 2016 president Megan Carey then came to the front to have the graduates turn their tassels before the graduates threw their caps in the air.
