LaSALLE — The Morris girls bowling team will find out if life is truly a bowl of cherries this weekend after winning the championship of the LaSalle-Peru Sectoonal last Saturday.
The Redskins put up a team score of 6,007 to claim the sectional title and advance to the state finals, which will be held at The Cherry Bowl in Rockford. It is the first state appearance for Morris since 2010.
Leading the team was freshman Angel Heck with a six-game series of 1,300, followed by senior Amy Waldron with 1,281 and sophomore Olivia Schultz with 1,265. Also contributing to the win was sophomore Cadenz Fitzgerald and seniors Corrinne Day and Allison Kukman.
"After seeing our confidence be at an all-time high after shooting our largest score of the season at regionals, I never thought we would continue on to sectionals and score an even bigger score," Morris coach Harry Banks said. "Bowling 6,007 has to be a team effort. The team came together and it is nice to see that many members are able to shoot big scores. It is always a surprise who the leader on the team can be with these current bowlers.
"With the team's confidence at an all-time high, I am looking forward to seeing what this team can do at state."
