Morris' Baldridge, six Coal City wrestlers reach quarterfinals

CHAMPAIGN — Morris 182-pound wrestler Cody Baldridge, the defending state runner-up in Class 2A at that weight class, won his first match Thursday at the state finals to advance to Friday's quarterfinals. Baldridge (37-1) won by major decision over Zac Finn of Wauconda, 13-5.

Also winning their first matches and qualifying for the quarterfinals were Coal City wrestlers Alex Friddle (113, won by pin over Evan RIggle of Dakota in 5:32), Jake Hiles (120, won by 10-1 major decision over Asher Wiegand of Eureka), Ryan Wasielewski (132, won by 9-0 major decision over Kain Jackson of El Paso-Gridley), T.J. Jezik (138, won by pin over Jacob Horsch of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in 3:25), Daniel Jezik (145, won in tie breaker - 1 over Rueben Cantu of Knoxville, 7-4), and Brock Crawford (195, won by pin over Gavin Smith of Lawrenceville in 1:24).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bolingbrook 56, Minooka 49: At the Class 4A Oswego Regional, the Indians dropped the title tame to finish the season with a 24-4 record.

Minooka cut the lead to 49-45 in the fourth quarter, but Bolingbrook was able to seal the victory at the free throw line. Brook Lynn Bachmann led Minooka with 25 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, while Cierra Bachmann and Hailey Arlis each scored eight.
