Power in Prayer

MORRIS – America prays and believes in the power of prayer. When faced with tragedy, hardships, health concerns, financial stress, career choices, relationships, marriage, family planning and life decisions, Americans find peace, comfort, joy and power in the opportunity to reach upward to God, who hears and responds.

According to the Barna Group, a majority of Americans pray often to God. The 2017 research of those who practice prayer shows 83 percent love Jesus but not the church, 83 percent are practicing Christians, and 98 percent are evangelicals.

The Bible calls believers to pray. The Story of God is threaded with moments of men and women reaching to God and asking for favor and blessings. Jesus taught us how to pray through the “Lord’s Prayer” found in Matthew 6:9-13.

There is also familiar acronym to follow during your quiet prayer time that is powerful.

A.C.T.S.

Adoration – realize you are talking to the Creator of the Heavens and Earth.

Confession – ask for and receive forgiveness of Sins, your personal disobedience to God.

Thanksgiving – spend time in Praise and acknowledge God’s blessings and favor in your life.

Supplications – bring your prayer requests and petitions to God who can do immeasurably more than we can ever imagine.

In the last 20 years, it seems there is a cultural shift in America regarding the expression of individual faith. A feeble attempt, at best, to silence the faithful who believe in One true God, Jesus Christ the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit commonly referred to as the Holy Trinity.

One truth prevails – when tragedy strikes, people bow their head, bend their knees, close their eyes, and enter into a very special time with their Creator.

Large gatherings of the faithful come together when the unexpected happens such as President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing, the Challenger space shuttle catastrophe, Hurricane Katrina, and 9/11, considered to be the worst tragedy in U.S. history.

People find comfort and peace in their personal faith journey through prayer. Whether it is a national tragedy or a personal situation, such as the unfavorable results of a medical test, God is the one we turn to for a miracle.

He alone provides a new path, a new view, an open door, another diagnosis, a new medication, the miracle of healing, a hug from the Father, love unfathomable, an unexpected financial blessing, a call from a loved one, and the blessings of God keep flowing.

Living Water Church opens the doors every Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. for prayer.

The Sanctuary has soft music and lighting to come and enjoy a personal time of prayer with God. Sit, walk, stand, or kneel as you find comfort in His Presence.

There is a Prayer Wall to place requests on and allow others to pray with you during the next week.
