Seneca boys capture Class 1A track sectional crown

SENECA – The Seneca boys track and field team scored 112 points Thursday to outdistance IC Catholic, which totaled 92, and win the Class 1A Seneca Sectional.

Winning sectional titles for the Irish were Tyler Draine in pole vault (11-5), Logan Vanderberg in discus (139-10), Cole Westmoreland in the 800 (2:00.54), Isaiah Swom in the wheelchair division of shot put and the 100, and the 4 x 800 (8:28.78) and 4 x 400 (3:37.38) relays.

Taking second place and also qualifying for next weekeend's state meet at Eastern Illinois University were Mason Dooley in pole vault (10-11), Austin Cockream in shot put (38-10) and Christopher Collet in the 1,600 (4:42.21).

GIRLS TRACK

1A state preliminaries: Seneca qualified senior Cora Wilkinson in the long jump (16-11) and sophomore Grace Alley in the triple jump (35-4) for the finals at the Class 1A State Meet. Wilkinson and Alley were joined by seniors Emily Woods and Eva Bruno in qualifying for the finals in the 4 x 400 relay. Dwight senior Daly Galoway qualified in the 1,600 (5:12.37).

BASEBALL

Yorkville 7, Coal City 1: The Coalers (27-7) fel behind early and couldn't rally against the Foxes in a non-conference loss Thursday. Blake Harseim suffered the loss, while relievers Keegan Gagliardo and Payton Hutchings combined to strike out 11 in five innings of work.
