Morris Lions Club chooses Citizen of the Year

MORRIS – At this year’s Lions Club Awards Dinner, the Morris Lions Club selected Brian Angwin, the site manager at LyondellBasell since the fall of 2012.

As Citizen of the Year, Angwin had assisted the Lions Club in hosting the annual Fall Classic Car Show at the LyondellBasell recreational facility. He is a member of the Morris Hospital Board, was the past president of Chemical Industry Council of Illinois Board, mentors students with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and has donated handcrafted stained glass lamps to United Way, YMCA and the Morris Hospital Auxilliary Fundraiser.

Angwin has shown support for We Care with Fill the Pantry, the GEDC Summer Intern program and Earth Expo, among other support programs. Recently, he created a photo wall of ways the company and employees are actively involved in helping the community, and has encouraged employees to become active individually. It is for these reasons he was selected as the Lions Club’s Citizen of the Year for 2017.

Morris Lions members also received awards to signal the end of another year. Foundation Fellow recipients were Lions Ben Swiggett and Doug McDonald. The Melvin Jones Award went to Lion Tom Kinzler.

The Lion of the Year Award went to Lion Paula Newsom. Sustaining Membership awards were given to Lions Rick Martino, Joanne Johnson, Doug Linn, Terri Egeland and Jeff Hanford. An award was presented to longtime Lion Ron Harseim for his nearly
50 years of service to the Morris Lions Club. Thank-you gifts were awarded to Lions President Sandy Sowers. Wrapping up the meeting, Lions Club members welcome new officers for next year, with Lion Doug Linn selected as president for 2017-18.
