ICS to start school Aug. 16

The first day of school for Immaculate Conception School students in grades one through eight will be Wednesday, Aug. 16. Classes begin at 7:55 a.m. and dismissal that day will be at 11 a.m. Bus service will not be available that day.

Preschool and kindergarten students and families are invited to visit the school Aug. 16. Three-year-old preschool parents and students may visit between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Four-year-old students and families may visit between 9:30 and 11 a.m.

Kindergarten students and parents whose last name begins with “A” though “M” may visit some time between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Those whose last names begin with “N” though “Z” might visit between 9:30 and 11 a.m.

The first full session of school for all I.C.S. students will be Thursday, Aug. 17. Bus service will begin that day. Hot lunch service will also begin that day.

Before school care will begin
Aug. 16 and after school care begins Aug. 17.

The school website, ics1.org, contains information regarding student physical, dental, and vision screenings. Parents should send completed forms to the school no later than the first day of school.

School times remain the same as last year. Before school care begins at 7 a.m. in the St. Angela Room. Students may begin gathering in the hallway in front of the office at 7:30 a.m. They will be permitted to go to their classrooms beginning at 7:45 a.m.

The tardy bell rings and classes begin at 7:55 a.m. Student lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Dismissal for kindergarten will be 2:30 p.m. Dismissal for bus riders is 2:30 p.m. and for all other students at 2:35 p.m. Three-year-old preschool class meets from 7:55 to 10:30 a.m. and the 4-year-old class meets from 7:55 to 11 a.m.

There will be an Orientation Night for new families on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Angela Room. The Back to School Party for all families will take place on the parish grounds following the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Aug. 12.

Back to School Night for I.C.S. parents will be held Thursday,
Aug. 31. Back to School Night is a great opportunity to meet the teachers, to learn their expectations, and to meet other parents.

Protecting God’s Children classes are scheduled for Aug. 7, Sept. 11, Oct. 23, Nov. 27 and March 6 at 6:30 p.m. The classes will be held at the school.

Participants only need attend one session. A Protecting God’s Children Class and a background check are required for all employees and volunteers who work with children. Parents are required to participate in Protecting God’s Children before they begin helping in classrooms, attending classroom parties, and chaperoning field trips.

I.C.S. will hold a “Get Together” on Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the St. Angela Room for the members of the I.C.S. Class of 2013. Members of this class recently completed high school and many of them will be going away to college for the first time. Guests will be treated to pizza and soft drinks.

They will have the opportunity to visit and to view yearbooks, pictures, and videos from their years at I.C.S. Each class member have received a letter detailing the “Get Together.” For information, contact the school office. Openings for additional students exist in all grades.
