The early learning screening from the Grundy County Special Education Cooperative for 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds in Grundy County school districts will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 16 at the Coal City Early Childhood Center at 755 S. Carbon Hill Road in Coal City.
All students inquiring about preschool are required to attend a screening.
The screening process takes about 60 minutes.
Children will be participating in several activities using the screening instrument called the Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning – 4th Edition.
The DIAL-4 will assess children’s speech and language, fine and gross motor skills, vision, hearing and basic concept skills.
The screening will help determine if a child is experiencing any educational difficulties.
After a child has completed all assessment categories, parents will have an opportunity to discuss concerns with staff members.
About two to three weeks after the screening, parents will receive a letter in the mail regarding their child’s performance indicating if they are functioning within normal parameters or if they might be eligible for an at-risk preschool.
A team member will call parents if more testing is recommended.
