GRUNDY COUNTY – A Shorewood man who went AWOL from the U.S. Navy was arrested about 10:30 a.m. Nov. 21 after a high-speed chase.

Anthony Meadors, 18, was clocked at 75 mph in a 55 mph zone while driving on Route 47, Grundy County Sheriff Kevin Callahan said.

An officer spotted Meadors and pursued him, but Meadors did not stop and proceeded to travel east on Route 113, police said.

Meadors then tried to turn onto Gorman Road, police said, but he missed the turn and drove into a field. Meadors then was taken into custody without any incident, Callahan said.

There also was a 19-year-old female passenger in Meadors’ car, police said. Meadors had a valid warrant out for his arrest for allegedly being absent without leave from the Navy. He still was in custody Monday morning, Callahan said.
