JOLIET — Police and fire officials responded to a crash involving multiple vehicles on westbound Interstate 80 Tuesday morning near Joliet.
East Joliet firefighters responded just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday to I-80 roughly one-quarter mile west of Briggs Street for a four-car collision, East Joliet Fire Protection District Lt. Matt Grohar said.
All four vehicles had moderate front-end damage when crews arrived, and one car had spun out into a ditch. Five people were involved, and two were transported to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Grohar said the two remained stable as they were taken to the hospital.
“There was debris all over the place," Grohar said.
Emergency vehicles blocked I-80 westbound for more than an hour to clean up the debris. Illinois State Police were investigating the crash but could not be reached for more information on how the crash occurred later Tuesday morning.
New Lenox firefighters also responded to assist those from East Joliet.
