Hines VA Hospital Community Outreach Team

“Outreach and education are an on-going process, educating veteransso they are more aware of the benefits they are eligible for and how to access those benefits is ongoing and an important part of our mission.” Ken Buck, Superintendent of the Grundy County Veterans Assistance Commission, said in a press release.

Part of the outreach is the Edward Hines VA Hospital Community Outreach Team. This team consists of an enrollment/eligibility clerk, a nurse and the team coordinator.

A variety of services are available from the team and they can also help veterans with referrals and information about the programs and services available at Hines Hospital and the Joliet Community Clinic.

“We are fortunate to have the team coming to Grundy County, allowing veterans to learn more about VA health care and the opportunities veterans have to use these services.” Buck said.

The Edward Hines VA Hospital Community Outreach Team is scheduled to visit Grundy County and the surrounding area on the following days in February:

Monday, Feb. 5 at the Morris American Legion Hall 212 W Washington Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 14 at the Minooka Village Hall 121 E McEvilly Road Minooka. The team will be in the community room from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 22 in Coal City. (this is a different date due to a federal holiday) The team will be at the Coal City American Legion 1752 E Division Street Diamond from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 28 at the Lions Club 511 Commercial Street in Marseilles from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For February, the team will be offering additional information regarding heart health. February is Heart Health month and the team will be offering healthy recipe books, heart health facts and heart health trivia.

Flu shots should still be available at these clinics for veterans who are enrolled in the VA health care system. For veterans not enrolled but that are eligible they can get registered at the outreach clinics with a copy of their military discharge document (DD 214).
