DIAMOND – Several area fire departments responded Friday to a structure fire in Diamond at the Urban Tile and Carpet Corp. building.
Coal City Fire Department Public Information Officer, Lt. Nick Doerfler, said the initial call for dispatch came in at 9:43 a.m. Friday.
"On arrival crews found heavy smoke," he said. He said the crews began attacking the fire, and the operations were still going on during the late morning. A building evacuation began when the fire crews showed up, he said.
Doerfler said there were no injuries reported from either people in the building or firefighters.
The fire was still under investigation, Doerfler said, and cause or extent of damage was not available yet.
In addition to Coal City, fire crews from Braidwood, Gardner, Morris, Wilmington, Channahon, Elwood and Minooka responded to the call and crews from Seneca and Manhattan manned the Coal City stations in mutual aid, Doerfler said.
