MORRIS – A company looking to possibly relocate to Grundy County has seven sites in total that it is considering, two of which are in Grundy County.
The project would bring in a 2.1 million square-foot facility – the largest building in the county – and more than 600 jobs in Grundy County were chosen.
“My impression is the other five are in Will County,” Nancy Norton, president and chief executive officer Grundy County Economic Development told a Grundy County Committee recently. “I don’t know that for certain, but I know they are all in this region.”
Norton has said before that the name of the company is a secret, which is a common arrangement at the beginning of a search like this. The project is currently going by the name DC3 while sites are being scoped out.
Applications and incentive packages are being exchanged, Norton told the committee. The list should be narrowed within the next week or two, Norton said.
At a previous meeting, Norton had asked the committee what it would consider as far as incentives for the project. While there was no vote or commitment from the committee at the time, the consensus was the county would agree to go longer than its usual five-year tax abatement length for new companies.
“Within five years, you could have someone paying $2 million in property taxes,” Norton said at the time.
At the April 4 meeting, Norton said she was also able to offer some of the incentives that come with Grundy County being party of the Upper Illinois River Valley Development Authority.
“(It) has it’s own enterprise zone,” she said. Some of the additional offers because of the UIRVDA location were natural tax incentives and sales tax incentives. “We were able to beef up our offer without a lot of local impact.
“We’re just waiting to see at this point,” Norton said.
