Troop 75460 donates CPR mannequins

Girl Scout troop TKTK donated CPR training mannequins to the MVK ambulance after selling more than 11,000 boxes of cookies this year.

MAZON – A local Girl Scout troop that sold more than 11,000 boxes of cookies decided to use some of its share to purchase CPR mannequins for the Mazon-Verona-Kinsman rescue squad.

“They are computerized and give real-time feedback for the instructor to tell if the person they are training is doing the compression at the right depth and speed and the breaths are life-saving,” said Marie Sjostrom, one of the parents who leads the troop.

Girl Scout Troop 75460 of Mazon sold more than 11,000 boxes of cookies this past cookie-selling season, and they were led by Bristol Sjostrom, 6, who sold more than 6,200 boxes. She sold the second most out of any Girl Scout in the region.

The troop received 90 cents for every box sold, and spent some time trying to figure out how to spend it. They wanted to give back to the community, Sjostrom said.

Next year, the troop plans on purchasing a service dog for someone who needs it, Sjostrom said.

In April, the troop had donated one box to every police officer, firefighter and EMT in Morris, Gardner, Verona and Mazon.

The Scouts who participated were juniors Kylee and Maggie, Brownies were Brooklyn and Bella, and Bristol and Cassidy are Daisies. Girl Scouts policy is to only have first names printed.
