Good Morning, Illinoisans, from a newbie. I’m Nancy Hope, born and raised in Washington, D.C., and after high school graduation and marriage, I resided in Maryland and Alabama.
The last part of my life’s journey will be in your lovely state.
I’ve said I have a window on the world, and here is what I see out my window at The Pointe in Morris.
A tree is nearby, and on it sits a squirrel house that I am hoping will give me a daily show. Across the way is a beautiful community where every morning many emerge to walk their dogs, followed by kids on bikes and runners. Many service vehicles turn in there, and I particularly like trash day. Whoever thought a metal arm could extend from a garbage truck and pick up the cans? I bet that saves a lot of backs!
One of my favorite TV shows is “Shark Tank,” and I am real excited about some of the strange things people have come up with hoping to become millionaires. My dad liked to make things he thought would make life easier or fun.
Back in the 40s, he took a pencil and cut notches down one side of it, and stuck a propeller from one of my brothers’ model airplanes in the eraser end. Then he took another pencil and rubbed it along the grooves.
Yep, the propeller spins! I think that would make a great fad for 2018, but I can’t talk anyone into joining me to get on “Shark Tank.”
I’m looking forward to getting to know you, and I hope you will get to know me, most likely by comparing my memories and ideas with yours.
I’ve got to go – same time, same place?
