GRUNDY COUNTY – The Grundy County Coroner's Office is investigating a traffic crash that resulted in the death of a Morris man,
Tony P. Rutherford, 27, was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at the scene of the crash on Reed Road, about a half-mile east of Gorman Road in Maine Township, according to a press release from the coroner's office.
The crash occurred at about 4 a.m. The vehicle was traveling west on Reed Road when he began to travel off the north side of the road. It then came back across the road and entered the south ditch.
"The ditch in that area is very deep with significant water and the vehicle flipped over onto its top," according to the press release. "Two female occupants of the vehicle climbed out of the vehicle and walked to a nearby house."
Rutherford was a passenger in the front seat and unrestrained, according to the release. The other passengers were taken to Morris Hospital by Coal City emergency services.
"The crash remains under investigation by Coroner Callahan’s office and the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department. An examination will take place later this date," the release read.
