St Juvin Post 1336 Veterans of Foreign Wars in partnership with the Coal City Public Library District and this year’s new partners the New Hope Presbyterian Church and Whitmore Ace Hardware are conducting their annual “Christmas in July” event for the benefit of the residents of the Manteno Veteran’s Home.

The library and New Hope Presbyterian church are accepting donations of items for the vets while Whitmore Ace Hardware is conducting a “round up” event where customers can round up their purchase to the nearest dollar with the money donated being used to purchase “extras” for the vets.

During the holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Years many folks remember the vets at Manteno, but it’s a long time between holiday seasons. Christmas in July gives the vets those “extras” that might make life a little brighter knowing that we appreciate and respect their service to our country.

The Manteno Veteran’s Home has provided suggestions for donations. Those include the following:

New sweatpants, sweatshirts, and t-shirts (size M, L, XL, XXL, and XXXL), diabetic socks, store bought - small candy bars (no nuts), individual packaged chips and pretzels, cereal bars - soft, coffee - regular and decaf, candy sugar free chocolate bars, cases of soda - diet or regular, individual packaged cookies, Puffed Popcorn (Hollis) - regular or cheese, Cookies - regular and sugar free (no nuts), Hawaiian Punch - gallons size, packaged crackers/cheese or peanut butter, sugar free gum/Freedent Gum, snack cakes (Little Debbie's or Hostess), new greeting cards, Batteries AAA, AA, C, D, and 9V, postage stamps - forever value, wireless headphones/TV use, men's wallet/coin purse, small flash lights, pocket talkers - personal amplifiers, paper plates (varied sizes) 6""-9"" pie plates, Six-ounce foam cups, plastic forks, spoons, and knifes, seasonal plates and napkins/birthday/holiday, Solo cups, napkins, paper towels/rolls, zip lock sandwich bags, and additional miscellaneous personal care items.

All items must be new and unopened in order to meet Public Health guidelines. Look for the blue wagon to place the items in the library. We appreciate your assistance with donations to the Manteno Veterans Home.

Stop by Whitmore Ace Hardware and see their Christmas in July tree decorated with our country’s flag. Without the support of local businesses, churches and the Library District, St. Juvin’s mission of service to veterans and our community would almost impossible.
