Morris Lions Club Egg Hunt adds new section for children with disabilities
MORRIS – For more than 50 years, the Morris Lions Club has hosted an egg hunt for area children before Easter. Normally divided up into four groups by age, this year saw a new addition called Cooper and Friends.
The section was made for children with special needs. Danielle and Mark Matney pitched the idea to Lion Lori Linn because their son, Cooper, has Down Syndrome, and thought a special section, away from the mad crush of the other sections across Goold Park, would be helpful.
"There's quite a few kiddos in town with Down Syndrome in Cooper's age group," Danielle said. The Cooper and Friends section of the egg hunt was set up initially expecting about 10 kids to show, but some got sick and others didn't come out because of the weather - a cold and gray day that threatened rain but never committed to it.
