If you were to ask a young child what he/she wanted to be when they grew up, no one would answer, “I want to be homeless”.
Grundy Area PADS is a volunteer not for profit organization that provides a safe and respectful environment for our area’s homeless from October to April. Last Season 1,037 homeless guests spent the night, which often included families with young children. PADS is able to provide additional services by partnering with Grundy County Health Department, Grundy County Housing Authority, Sheriff’s Department, Morris Hospital, We Care, United Way, City of Morris, and Pathway of Hope.
Four Morris churches — Peace Lutheran, First United Methodist, Immaculate Conception, and Living Word provide shelter from 7pm until 7am. PADS provides dinner, breakfast, lunch and any supplies needed.
The PADS Board is continuing our quest to find a permanent site. By partnering with Pathway to Hope, we are working toward our goal to help each individual gain independence and self-sufficiency.
The annual cost to provide Shelter in Grundy County is approximately $10,000 in addition to the many in-kind contributions we receive.
How can you help?
Volunteers are our greatest need. If you would like to volunteer or have any questions please call PADS Volunteer Coordinator at 815-474-7899 or visit www.grundypads.org.
Monetary donations are always needed. The financial support we receive also enables us to provide meals for St. Vincent’s Table held in Morris on Thursday nights and Coal City on Monday nights. Last year we were able to feed 2,925 people.
#GiveGrundy is a monthly series highlighting the nonprofits that serve Grundy County. We are one voice of strength, hope, and commitment. Together we serve the residents of Grundy County. When you are ready to give, PLEASE remember #GiveGrundy.
