The Holidays are a time for family. A time of gathering, and a time to bring hearts and minds home. As the popular song goes “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” For those who have experience a death, the carols may ring hollow, the lights be too bright, gatherings too sad, and there are constant reminders of an empty space in the circle of the family.
This is the time to take care of yourself. To mourn in the way that is meaningful for you. If that means fully participating in the holiday traditions, then experience them in the best way you can. If that means that you cannot participate in any of the usual events and expectations of the season, then allow yourself the gift of doing what is right for you. Now is not the time for guilt or for pressure. Now is the time for embracing your journey, your right to grieve, and the importance of healthy steps.
The well intended may say to you “I know what you’re going through.” They certainly mean well, and they may know what THEY went through, but they don’t know what YOU are going through. Mourning is a very personal experience. Each relationship is mourned differently. We each go through it in our own unique way.
In preparation for the holidays, Reeves and Baskerville Funeral Homes will be hosting our annual Holiday Memorial Service. Everyone is welcome, regardless whether we personally served your family or not. The service will be held on Sunday afternoon, November 18, 2018 at Baskerville Funeral Home in Wilmington at 1:00 p.m. and again Monday evening, November 19, 2018 at Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City at 6:30 p.m. RSVP is appreciated, but not required. If we did not serve your family over the past year, and you wish to provide a photo to us by November 15th, we will include your loved one in our presentation.
