Veterans Receive VA Funeral Assistance

SPONSORED

A veteran is any man or woman who served honorably on active duty in the armed forces of the United States. After being discharged, a veteran is eligible for a variety of services that the Veterans Administration offers, including burial benefits. The VA operates 135 national cemeteries; 77 are currently open for both new casket and cremation interments.

Burial in a national cemetery is open to all veterans who have met the discharge requirements. Certain surviving family members are also eligible for burial, even if they predecease the veteran. Additional benefits include burial headstones and markers, or a medallion in lieu of a government headstone for private cemeteries. Some expenses may be reimbursed by the VA if the veteran's death is connected to their service. Additional information can be found at www.benefits.va.gov.

At U.C. Davis - Callahan Funeral Home in Morris, compassionate and caring staff members have many years of experience in planning military services. "We're proud to honor all those who served in our military," said owner John Callahan. "When we have the opportunity to care for a veteran and his or her family, we feel we are expressing gratitude for their service and their sacrifice for our country."

The staff at U.C. Davis - Callahan is committed to providing veterans and their families with meaningful and honorable ceremonies. In addition to the service details, they will assist with completing applications for all veterans' benefits, including military honors, Presidential Memorial Certificates, and veteran headstones or markers. "We will also confirm and help coordinate any existing prepaid benefits to help cover expenses considered ineligible by the VA," added Callahan. "We can coordinate with any national or state cemetery as desired by the veteran or the family. We also partner with the local American Legion Post 294 to drape the veteran with a retiring flag during the cremation process if requested. " For more information, please contact:
