MORRIS – So far this season, when Lucy Londergon enters the swimming pool, chances are good that a school record will be broken. Londergon, who attends Minooka High School but swims for Morris as part of a co-op, has broken Morris records in the 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter breaststroke as well as being part of record-setting relay teams in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
MHN: This is your first year swimming in high school. What did you do before?
Londergon: I have been swimming in club since I was 7 years old. This is my senior year and I wanted the experience of being on a high school team and high school meets.
MHN: You were home-schooled early. How have you adjusted to high school?
Londergon: It’s a lot different. My graduating class in eighth grade had eight people in it. It was kind of rough to adjust to being around all those people my freshman year, but I am used to it now and I like it.
MHN: You have broken a lot of records already. Was that the plan coming into the year?
Londergon: I definitely wanted to set some school records this year. I saw the times up on the board and I knew I could do it.
MHN: It’s not only you. There are other records falling. How much does that help the team?
Londergon: We have a lot of really good swimmers on this team. It really helps everyone because we are always pushing each other in practice. When we work hard in practice, it carries over into the meets and we put up good times.
