MORRIS – Morris junior girls bowler Cadenz Fitzgerald won the individual championship at the 12th annual Charles Butterfield Invitational over the weekend. Her six-game total of 1,295 was one pin better than second-place Kiara Backstrom of Minooka.
MHN: How does it feel to win the individual championship at your own invitational?
Fitzgerald: It feels pretty awesome. It was nice to be here on our own lanes. We were pretty comfortable here.
MHN: Did you do anything different today?
Fitzgerald: Not really. I just tried to do what I have been doing all year. I was able to beat my previous high, which is pretty much the goal every time out. Now, I have a new number to beat next time.
MHN: How have things been going for you this year?
Fitzgerald: We are doing OK. We are better now than we were at the beginning of the season. We have a lot of fun bowling together.
MHN: Any goals for the rest of the year?
Fitzgerald: We felt like we did pretty good as a team today, but sometimes we have to stop getting in our own heads. We let things bother us too much sometimes. We just want to keep getting better and hopefully, we can all have a good day at the same time in the regionals and sectionals.
