WESTMONT — The Seneca softball team exploded for 15 runs in the first two innings Tuesday and scored a 22-3 five-inning victory in Interstate Eight Conference play.
Kylie Winsor went 5 for 5, including a home run, and three RBIs. Cassidy Draves also homered and had four RBIs. Claudia Morris had a double, a triple and three RBIs.
Maggie Carpenter went three innings with nine strikeouts for the win, while Anne Krull went two innings, allowing two hits, three runs and two walks while striking out two.
Sandwich 6, Coal City 4: Losing pitcher Leslie Youskevtch went 3 for 3 at the plate Tuesday for the Coalers, while Madison Emerson and Madelaine Ragain each had two hits. Emerson had a double and two RBIs as well.
Morris 5, DeKalb 0: In singles play Tuesday, Peter Smyk won, 6-2, 6-1, for the Redskins, while Eli Davy won in, 6-2, 6-1. In doubles, Oscar Segura and Nolan Robbins won, 6-4, 6-3; Tyler Spezio and Blake Niewiniski won, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5; and Brandon Weitzel and Matt Grant won 6-2, 6-4.
Morris 4, Pontiac 1: The Redskins improved their record to 3-0 Wednesday with the victory. In singles play, Peter Smyk and Eli Davy each won in two sets. The doubles teams of Tyler Spezio and Blake Neiwinski and Brandon Weitzel and Matt Grant each won in two sets, while Oscar Segura and Nolan Robbins lost in two sets.
Westmont 5, Seneca 4: Uriah Tobolsky went 3 for 3 with an RBI to lead Seneca's offense Tuesday in the Interstate Eight loss, while Myles Mitchell was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Losing pitcher Gage Cryder struck out seven in allowed six hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Coal City 11, Sandwich 0: Winning pitcher Blake Harseim had two hits, including a two-run homer, and threw a one-hit shutout Tuesday in the five-inning I-8 win for Coal City (9-3, 1-0). Harseim had a no-hitter through four innings before allowing a single in the fifth. He struck out four. Offensively, the Coalers totaled nine hits, as Harseim (home run, 3 RBIs), Pullara and Beau Wills all had two hits. Keegan Gagliardo and Brandon Nevin each doubled.
Morris freshmen 12, DeKalb 2: Matt Lawton threw five innings Tuesday for Morris (4-2, 2-0), giving up no earned runs on no hits while striking out six. Nolan Washburn closed out the no-hitter giving up no earned runs on no hits and two strike outs.
Morris sophomores 10, DeKalb 3: The Redskins improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 with the win.
