Morris Theatre Guild has started rehearsals for “Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus,” by Andrew Fenady. This radio play invites the audience to watch and follow along as the actors and sound artist recreate the wonderful story of Virginia, who writes her letter to the New York Sun, explaining that her father told her, “If you see it in the sun, it’s so.”
As the details of her family emerge, the newspaper editor Ed Mitchell give the assignment to Frank Church, a reporter on the verge of self-destruction. The story develops into a quest to discover if there is indeed a Santa Claus. As he struggles to answer her question, Frank finds his own answers as he creates one of the world’s most quoted and beloved editorials.
The cast includes Alana Stroup of Morris, Jacqueline Ashcraft, Christina Spiros, Jim and Cathie Stewart of Shorewood, Gary Talsky of Spring Valley, Matt Pasternak of Garner, Tom Schmitt of Aurora, William Slivka of Braidwood, Stephanie Griffin, Dawn, Maddie, and Noah Brunker of Joliet, and Matt Johnson of Newark. The play is Directed by Christine Johnson with Sue Burich as Assistant Director, and Judy Miller as Stage Manager.
