Morris resident Chris Brown is has announced his candidacy for the 2021 election for mayor of Morris.
Brown was born and raised in Morris. He and his wife, Suzy, are raising their five children in Morris and they are proud to call it their home, according to a press release issued by the campaign this week.
“I love our town. Suzy and I are so blessed to have the opportunity to raise our family here,” Brown said in the release. “There is no place else we would want to do that. This is where I have made my best memories in life and I want to make sure that my family, and all of the families in Morris, continue to have a quality of life that is second to none.”
Brown said he believes Morris has given its residents a standard of living to be proud of, but also believes there are opportunities for improvement. He is looking forward to collaborating with Morris’ local organizations that work to make Morris the special place that it is. He also believes economic expansion and business development within Morris are essential to its successful economic future, according to the release.
“In speaking with our residents, they want to see more desirable businesses in our community,” he said.
Brown added that he believes focusing on the historic downtown is essential.
“They especially want to see development in our downtown area. I see an economic potential that needs to be spurred by our city government and I believe that I can provide the leadership to take our local economy to the next level. I believe that our future is bright,” he said in the press release.
Chris Brown graduated from Morris Community High School in 1995 and graduated from Illinois State University in 1999. He currently serves on the Grundy County Board of Review, MCHS Quarterback Club, JJC Foundation Board and the Will County Children’s Advocacy Board. He is also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1024.
In the past, he has served on the Grundy County United Way Board of Directors and was the chairman of the Grundy County Republicans from 2001 to 2006.
Brown also served as a volunteer coach with the Morris Warriors football team and as a basketball coach through the Morris YMCA.
