A Coal City man was booked into the Grundy County jail Wednesday, following an arrest for predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
On Nov. 12, the Coal City Police Department was made aware of an alleged criminal sexual assault perpetuated by the same suspect on numerous occasions, which had all occurred in Coal City in 2018 and 2019, according to a news release issued by the CCPD.
An extensive investigation was conducted into the allegations. The legal guidance of the Grundy County State’s Attorney’s Office was heavily relied upon during the investigation, the release states.
On Wednesday, the suspect, Steff L. Nichols, 30, of Coal City, was arrested without incident after turning himself in at the Coal City Police Department.
Nichols is charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony, and was booked into the Grundy County Jail awaiting a bong hearing.
This case is still under investigation and will be reviewed for further charges. Due to the victim being a juvenile at the time these crimes occurred, no further information will be released, according to the press release.
