Morris Theatre Guild is pleased to present the radio play “Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus” by Andrew Fenady from Friday through Sunday, and Dec. 13 through Dec. 15, at 516
W. Illinois Ave., Morris.
This Radio Play invites the audience to watch and follow along as the actors and sound artist recreate the wonderful story of Virginia, who writes her letter to the New York Sun, explaining that her father told her,
“If you see it in the Sun, it’s so.”
As the details of her family emerge, newspaper editor Ed Mitchell decides to give the assignment to Frank Church, a reporter on the verge of self-destruction.
The story develops into a quest to discover if there is indeed a Santa Claus. As he struggles to answer her question, Ed finds his own answers as he creates one of the world’s most quoted and beloved editorials.
Director Christine Johnson said the play tells not just the story of the girl and her letter, but her family and the reporter who wrote the editorial to answer her letter. Knowing the larger story helps give the answer more meaning and effect.
Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinées are at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are available online at www.morristheatreguild.org or by calling 815-942-1966.
