Continuing their tradition of a Christmas visit and presentation of woven tapestry throws to veterans in skilled care and assisted living facilities, the members of St. Juvin Post 1336 stopped in at Aperion Healthcare in Wilmington, Heritage Woods Assisted Living and Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care in Dwight, Regency Health, The Pointe, Park Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation and The Gardens at Park Pointe in the month of December.
St. Juvin Post started this tradition in 2013 at the suggestion of Post Commander Charlie Brown’s wife Kathy and since that first distribution over 460 of these symbols of the veteran’s service to a grateful nation have been presented. This represents about $25,000 that the Post raised through their Budd Poppy Program and private donations from businesses and individuals.
This year’s distribution consisted of 34 personalized throws.
The Post also presents their “Blankets for Vets” throws during the year to local veterans of WWII, Korea or any vet suffering a serious health issue.
The 30 inch by 40 inch throws feature an eagle motif, the veteran’s branch of service logo and their embroidered name or nickname.
