DATELINE — The Gardner-South Wilmington girls basketball team continued its stellar season Tuesday night, defeating Grant Park, 54-27, in the semifinal of the Class 1A Gardner-South Wilmington Regional.
Kennedy Fair and Kaitlynn Kavanaugh each scored 10 points for the Lady Panthers (26-4), while Mya Anderson and Abby Beck each scored eight.
GSW will tip off against Ottawa Marquette on Thursday night for the regional championship.
Seneca 57, Beecher 39: The sixth-seeded Lady Irish advanced to Thursday's Class 2A Reed-Custer regional title game against the host school with the win. Rita Jashari and Madison Bromberek each scored 16 points to lead Seneca.
Coal City 50, Wilmington 36: In the Class 2A Reed-Custer Regional on Monday, Madison Emerson scored a team-high 18 points to lead the Coalers to the victory. Hayleigh Roach scored 12 points for Coal City and Audrey Cooper added 10.
Minooka 43, Yorkville 41: Sophie Darden led Minooka with 14 points, while Brooke McNally added 12. Maizy Caves took a charge at the end of the game that sealed the victory.
St. Anne 66, Gardner-South Wilmington 48: Chris Bexson led GSW (16-12, 6-4) with 23 points Tuesday in the River Valley Conference loss. Connor Steichen added 12 points and six rebounds.
Coal City 78, Wilmington 70: The Coalers held off a 29-point fourth quarter by Wilmington by scoring 27 points of their own in the fourth in the Illinois Central EIght win. Jarod Garrelts led Coal City with 21 points, while Jack Bunton scored 17 and Austin Pullara and Kyle Burch both scored 13. Cade Muller added eight points for the Coalers.
Sectional qualifiers: This weekend, Morris will send five wrestlers - Bryce Claypool, Robby Bates, Bobby Griffin, Nolan Washburn, and Julian Gonzalez - to the Class 2A Rochelle Sectional. Coal City will have 12 wrestlers competing at the Class 1A Chicago Bowen Sectional - Evan Rivera, Mataeo Blessing, Zach Finch, Lane Kutemeier, Connor Huston, Gabe Ludes, David Papach, Ashton Harvey, Dane Dearth, Daniel Jezik, Gage Leake, and Loagn Miller. Seneca will have 10 wrestlers competing at the Class 1A Oregon Sectional - Luke Sangston, Jaden Casey, Ben Virgo, Owen Feiner, Brett Yegge, Joey Hatz, Isaac Marques, Gavin Robertson, Nathan Elliott, and Gavin Maxon. Competing for Minooka at the Class 3A Quincy Sectional will be Joe Cecala, Nathan Berta, Michael Carey, Michael Ruettiger, Jake Mensik, Jack McClimon, Anthony Sartori, Donald Dorich, Drew Gutknecht, and Jake Shipla.
Autograph Night:The Morris boys basketball team will host an Autograph Night on Friday, Feb. 21. All fans 14 and under will receive a free Senior Poster. High school students and adults can purchase a poster for a $1 donation. Senior basketball players, cheerleaders and poms will be available from 4:45 until 5:45 to sign autographs in the wrestling gym.
Senior Night: Morris will honor its eight senior boys basketball players, four senior poms and two senior cheerleaders Tuesday, Feb. 25, immediately after the sophomore basketball game against Streator.
