Meet the 2019-2020 Girls Basketball All-Area Tam

The 2019-20 girls basketball season is over, and there were some outstanding performances. Here is the All-Area team.

FIRST TEAM

Meggie Scott, senior, Newark: Morris Herald-News Player of the Year... Unanimous All-Little Ten Conference... IBCA Class 1A First Team All-State... AP Honorable Mention All-State... Second-leading scorer in Newark history... 4th all-time in IHSA for assists... Averaged 14.3 points, 8.4 assists, 3.7 steals, and 3.6 rebounds per game... Shot 83% from free throw line... Coach Barb Scott: "Meggie is the second leading scorer in Lady Norsemen history and first in all-time assists. She also moved into fourth all-time on the IHSA assists list."

Abby Beck, senior, Gardner-South Wilmington: River Valley Conference Player of the Year... All-Tournament at Reed-Custer and Iroquois West... AP and IBCA Honorable Mention All-State... Averaged 12.8 points, 5.2 steals, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game... Coach Adam Leigh: "The Associated Press decided she was one of the top 32 players in Class 1A. Abby caused problems for other teams on both ends of the floor and she really was what made our team run at the pace we did all season. She really set the tone."  

Kaitlynn Kavanaugh, senior, Gardner-South Wilmington: First Team All-River Valley Conference... All-Tournament at Reed-Custer and Iroquois West... IBCA Honorable Mention All-State... All-time leading rebounder at GSW... Averaged 10.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game... Coach Adam Leigh: "Kaitlynn has started for the varsity team for all four years, she scored over 1,000 points for her career and just gave other teams lots of trouble in the post when she was in the game. She is a hard worker who could play very physically inside."

Arberita Jashari, senior, Seneca: First-team All-Tri-County Conference... Tri-County Conference Player of the Year... Averaged 10.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game... Coach Ted O'Boyle: "Arberita was a three-year varsity starter for us."

Jocelyn Mitchell, senior, Newark: Unanimous All-Little Ten Conference selection... Averaged 14.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game.. Coach Barb Scott: "Jocelyn finished her career No. 9 in scoring in Lady Norsemen history with 1,017 points."

Mackenzie Lind, junior, Morris: Averaged 6.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocked shots per game... Honorable Mention All-Interstate Eight Conference... Coach Luke Windy: "Mackenzie had a solid year for us. She was our leading scorer and second-leading rebounder. The potential is there to have a huge season next year."

SECOND TEAM

Sophie Darden, senior, Minooka: Averaged 10.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.3 assists per game... Coach Jeff Easthon: "Sophie led us in all categories, She was a team captain and a great kid. She is going to play at Millikin."

Madelyn Storm, senior, Gardner-South Wilmington: Second-team All-River Valley Conference... Averaged 8.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game... Coach Adam Leigh: "Madelyn was the player that has always flown under the radar for every competitive team we face. She is our best 3-point shooter and was constantly left open on the outside all season. She always had a way of creating her shot to get a good look at the basket and has always competed at a very high level."

Madison Emerson, senior, Coal City: All-Illinois Central Eight Conference... Averaged 8.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game... Coach Brad Schmitt: "Madison was one of our main offensive threats and could control the game from the outside if we were able to get her open,"

Mara Bruno, senior, Seneca: Second-team All-Tri-County Conference... 304 rebounds was second-most in school history... Averaged 5.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game... Coach Ted O'Boyle: "Mara had the second-most rebounds in a season in school history and she was a co-captain for us."

Alexis Johnson, sophomore, Morris: Honorable Mention All-Interstate Eight Conference... All-Tournament at Reed-Custer... Averaged 5.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game... Coach Luke Windy: "Alexis had to deal with nagging injuries all year. To put up the numbers she did was tremendous. She does a little bit of everything for us."

Kellie Snyder, sophomore, Newark: All-Little Ten Conference selection... Averaged 6.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game... Coach Barb Scott: "Kellie was a fierce rebounder for us all season and had multiple games with between 12-18 rebounds. She was a game changer on the boards and was also a solid finisher at the rim."

HONORABLE MENTION

Morris: Kyla Kjellesvik, Autumn Schultz, Alexis Smith; Gardner-South Wilmington: Kennedy Fair; Newark: Kaitlyn Hatteberg; Seneca: Brooklyn Giertz, Madison Bromberek.
