Seneca voters say yes to allowing marijuana businesses

Seneca village board members believed residents should have a say in whether recreational marijuana businesses would operate in the community.

Residents responded with a yes in Tuesday’s primary election.

According to unofficial results, 188 voters said yes, compared to 139 who voted no.

The question asked: “Should the Village of Seneca allow legal adult-use cannabis businesses to operate within village limits?”

“he fair thing is to let our residents decide whether or not they want cannabis businesses in our village,” said Seneca Mayor Jeff Olsen.

The village has has held off on putting marijuana zoning in place, but the referendum will give trustees some direction.
