The Morris City Council approved a TIF Commercial Lease Payment Grant Program.

MORRIS — The Morris City Council met via Zoom on Monday night and approved a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District I Comercial Lease Payment Grant Program.

The program is in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing Executive Order No. 2020-07 by the Governor of Illinois. The City of Morris has creates the Commercial Lease Payment Grant Program to assist affected commercial business tenants who lease sites for conducting commercial business operations within Morris TIF District I.

Grant awards are offered as a reimbursement in an ammount not to exceed $1,500 or toal verified eligible project costs for lease payments incurred on or after March 16, 2020. All appications are reviewed by the City of Morris on a first-come, first-served basis and approved subject to the availability of funds as authoried by the City.

Morris Mayor Dick Kopczick said that the ordinance passed with a unanimouse vote, and that the City has authorized a maximum $225,000 expenditure.

"I already had some applications e-mailed to me by morning," Kopczick said Tuesday. "We hope to have the checks out within a week.

"We really worked hard to make it as easy as possible. Some of the federal and state applications are like the Great American Novel by the time you get done. We wanted to make it as quick and easy as possible so that our local businesses can stay afloat. If they have $1,500 to help with their lease, then that's $1,500 they can spend elsewhere to keep their businesses going."

Kopczick said that the application forms can be found at www.morrisil.org.

In other action, the council approved the list of bills to be paid by the City.
