Body of Matteson man in boating accident found Tuesday at Dresden Lock and Dam

Was involved in boating incident on May 7

MORRIS – Grundy County Coroner John Callahan, along with the Department of Conservation, is investigating the discovery of a body in the water at the Dresden Lock and Dam. The body was found about 5 a.m. Tuesday by employees of the lock and dam.

In a news release, Callahan said there was a boating incident in Kankakee on May 7, when two men fell into the waters of the Kankakee River and were not found. Working with conservation officers in Kankakee and Grundy counties, along with the families, it has been determined that the identity of the body found Tuesday morning is William C. Veasley, 42, of Matteson.

In the same release, Callahan said the body recovery was made by the Morris Fire Department Water Rescue Unit. Assisting on the scene were Coal City Fire/EMS and Illinois State Police.

Examination took place late Tuesday afternoon with the cause of death being drowning.
