While some of the restrictions eased last week as we entered Phase 3, the first image that comes to mind is Wrigley Field. Traditionally, I've made my way to the North Side at least a couple times every summer to watch some Cubs games, and take in the sights and sounds of one of my favorite Chicago neighborhoods. Traveling from Ottawa, I typically make it a day-long adventure with my sister, bringing home a funny tale or two from our excursion. My stepfather's annual Fourth of July backyard party also is a victim of the pandemic, sadly. This party has been going for over a decade, complete with a bouncy house, volleyball and bags, fireworks worthy of a professional show and catered Portillo's. Many of the guests I only see once a year, and I'll miss their faces and stories. Plans for a family vacation this summer to celebrate my sister and brother-in-law's 50th birthdays also were squashed, and I'm very much looking forward to sun, sand and ocean as soon as we feel safe enough to travel.
