I’m currently reading "Outlaw Ocean" by Ian Urbina. Urbina covers the dangers and lawlessness on the open waters. To start his chapter on sea slavery, he quotes Werner Herzog: “What would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark? It would be like sleep without dreams.” A recent novel I finished was "Killing Commendatore" by Haruki Murakami. Murakami is a national treasure in Japan, and his latest delivers all his go-to themes: Listlessness, improbable relationships, magical realism, and classical music on vinyl. For streaming, “Dark” is one of my all-time favorites on Netflix. Take “Lost," “True Detective” and a little “Back to the Future,” and you’ve got a fantastically grim, time and mind-bending tale from Germany. The show is available with an English dub but for the full experience, watch in German with English subtitles. The third and final season drops June 27, which happens to be my son’s birthday.
