With COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations soaring to new levels, Versiti Blood Centers is struggling to keep up with demand for convalescent plasma from blood donors who have recovered from COVID-19 at the hospitals the centers serve.

The need has doubled in the past four weeks, and that need is expected to increase rapidly as COVID-19 cases continue to surge, according to a news release from Versiti.

Versiti asks that anyone who has been infected with COVID-19 and has been symptom-free for at least 14 days to donate COVID-19 convalescent plasma.

CCP is used by hospitals to treat the most severely affected patients. The donated plasma contains antibodies, which can help seriously ill patients fight the disease.

To donate, call 877-BE-A-HERO. CCP donors generally are eligible to donate up to
12 times.

Those interested in donating CCP for the first time should visit versiti.org/covid19plasma.
