Heritage Woods working to keep residents healthy

SPONSORED

COVID-19 continues to be reported across Illinois.

Residents in retirement communities are considered to be at higher risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes because of older age and because they may have underlying health conditions, such as chronic heart disease, diabetes, or lung disease.

The Centers for Disease Control has issued guidance specific to retirement and independent living communities can help the residents, and those who help serve them, slow the spread of the virus and prevent serious illness.

Heritage Woods of Minooka, an assisted lifestyle community serving Grundy, Kendall and Will counties, is adapting to today’s environment to keep its residents safe.

With early due diligence and continued support from Gardant, the Local Health Department and the National Stockpile, Heritage Woods has everything its employees need to keep themselves and residents safe.

While adhering to very detailed infection control precautions, the community will hold two small group activities daily, Monday-Friday. Precautions will include wearing of masks, physical distancing, frequent sanitizing of touched surfaces and disposable supplies. A scheduling system will be implemented that provides an equal opportunity for each resident to sign up for groups. As always, in-room activities will be available for those residents who are not comfortable joining in small group activities.

The CDC also offers these recommendations to for residents of retirement communities to protect themselves and others:

  • Wash your hands after touching surfaces in public places
  • Establish a “buddy” system to ensure you stay connected
  • Ensure continued regular care and medical services
  • Have medication and supplies on hand, as well as an adequate supply of food and everyday essentials
  • Keep your room clean and disinfected
  • Learn and practice alternative ways to interact with family and friends, including video or telephone calls
